OPEN STANDARDS DECENTRALIZED WEB OPEN SOURCE
Hi! I'm Michiel, a Network & Security Infrastructure student at Odisee with a strong interest in open standards, decentralized systems, and the deeper layers of the web.
I didn’t start my degree because of some lifelong dream to work in IT. At first, it was simply a practical choice: getting a diploma that leads to a good job. What truly changed things were the mentors who showed me what technology actually does, how to build things, break them, and experiment with how everything fits together. That’s when it clicked that beneath every app, every website, and every network, there is a rich and fascinating layer of engineering quietly making it all work.
Over the past few years, I’ve worked on projects that let me get close to that engineering. One of them was the Dengue Dashboard, where I helped build a data-driven platform that transformed raw epidemiological data into something doctors could actually use. That showed me that even a student can make a real-world impact.
That curiosity now leads me to imec-IDLab, where I’ll be diving deeper into technology that most users never see, but everyone depends on.
Technology only matters if people can own, move, and connect their data freely.

Exploring forgotten corners and future edges of the web — from IndieWeb to linked data to generative systems.
DECENTRALIZED
Systems, experiments, and open web projects focused on interoperability and longevity.
Experiments and implementations around decentralized publishing: RSS feeds, Webmentions, ActivityPub concepts, and identity without platforms.
The Open Source Library is a public learning space We try cool things, get them wrong, get them right, document them, and understand them better over time. If you learn something too, great!
Visual and interactive experiments translating structured data into systems humans can explore and reason about.
